Living is Joy Enough
Living is Joy Enough, 2024
Brooke Harris
30 x 24 inches
Acrylic
Inspired by a line from Emily Dickinson’s letter to abolitionist T.W. Higgins: “Find ecstasy in life; the mere sense of living is joy enough,” this piece is a meditation of life’s moments and how they transform us into new beings.
It reminds us to slow down and notice the beauty around us and give gratitude for the many processes, memories, and relationships it takes to be here in this moment. Much like layers of paint, all layer over one another into a beautiful full life. Renewal comes from days rested and soil cultivated with the dead things that are no longer us. We till with determined hearts and sow seeds trusting the process. In this trust of new and beautiful things yet to come, we sit in the moment where renewal springs forth.
